Food Technology

The West Midlands is the birthplace of great British food and drink icons such as Cadbury, Typhoo Tea, Bird’s Custard and Marston’s.

As the face of industry and advanced manufacturing, we have not only kept up our history of great food production but exceeded it.

That consumer tradition lives on today with food manufacturers like Mondelēz International, East End Foods, Allied Bakeries and Cleone Foods using the region as a base for R&D, product development, manufacturing and distribution.

In the West Midlands, we’re privileged to have not only great education systems, but also a great number of high-quality universities, giving us great access to lots of talent and resource in the local region.

From fish and chips, to fine dining, and then some

The West Midlands is a region with an exceptional taste in food. We have many restaurants, including ten Michelin-starred restaurants – one of the highest concentrations in the UK.

With a quality of life ranked higher than Rome, Osaka and Washington DC, and an aggressively growing tourism trade, it is clear why our eateries rose to meet the challenge.

Specialising in 3D printed nutrition, we have benefited from the skills and expertise of recruits from three local universities who focused their studies on additive manufacturing.

As a tech startup where we manufacture all our products in-house, we have also found the reasonable rent for office space and production units, as well as the direct transport links to the rest of the UK, extremely helpful.

Up and coming expertise

The region’s universities help provide expertise thanks to relevant food technology courses and a high level of specialist research. We have eight world-class local universities and 58,000 graduates across the West Midlands Combined Authority. Combined with the existing 156,000 professionals in food and drink across the same area, there is a rich talent pool for you to draw from. The future talent of the food and beverage manufacturing industry is being trained, right here.
