The West Midlands’ rapidly growing Fintech sector is rooted in the established network of Business, Professional and Financial companies. New entrants to the sector can take advantage of the myriad innovation hubs, incubators and technology accelerators that underpin the vibrant local start-up scene.

The region is a proving ground for the acceleration and adoption of new technologies, with a £411 million and growing Fintech community of local founders and international investors. The West Midlands is also one of just three Fintech hubs recognised by the UK Government.

Companies here are built on the expertise of the region’s deep talent pool. We have a large and diverse working population for companies to hire from. There are 37,250 professionals in computer programming and relevant consultancy fields in the region. Nine local universities produce over 60,000 graduates, and a further 11 universities are within a one-hour drive, helping boost the graduate pipeline further.

“When assessing several locations for Microland’s expansion, the West Midlands was an obvious choice for us.

“The area has become an epicentre for technology, with a vibrant ecosystem of major companies, access to technically skilled, digital talent and world-class infrastructure. This is essential for us in order to meet the ever-growing demands of our global customers.”

Help to invest in Fintech in the UK

SuperTech, the UK’s first Proftech supercluster, works with local companies to create beneficial relationships through the Connector Series. This programme provides unique access to major BPFS anchor firms for SMEs and start-ups. It sets up exclusive 1-2-1 sessions with leading industry figures from some of the biggest companies in the area.

Not only does the West Midlands provide unique networking to galvanise Fintech SMEs, but can give access to free or temporary office space for relocating companies. The Engine Room is a free co-working space offered by the Investment Association to members looking to work out of Colmore Circus in central Birmingham.
